Jazan Refinery




Jazan Refinery is a large crude oil refinery located in the southwestern region of Saudi Arabia. The refinery is owned and operated by Saudi Aramco, the world's largest oil company. Jazan Refinery is a part of Saudi Aramco's plan to expand its downstream operations and increase its refining capacity.


The Jazan Refinery has a processing capacity of 400,000 barrels per day (bpd), making it one of the largest refineries in the world. The refinery is designed to produce a range of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and petrochemicals. The refinery also has the capability to produce up to 250,000 bpd of ultra-low sulfur diesel, which is expected to help meet the growing demand for cleaner fuels in the region.


One of the unique features of the Jazan Refinery is its integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plant. The IGCC plant uses a gasification process to convert low-grade fuel, such as heavy oil or coal, into a synthetic gas that can be used to generate electricity. The plant has a capacity of 4,000 megawatts (MW) and is one of the largest IGCC power plants in the world. The electricity generated by the IGCC plant is used to power the refinery and is also supplied to the national grid.


The Jazan Refinery is also equipped with advanced technologies to reduce its environmental impact. For example, the refinery uses a wastewater treatment plant to treat and recycle the water used in the refining process. The refinery also has a flare gas recovery system, which captures and utilizes the waste gas that is typically flared off during refining operations.


The Jazan Refinery is expected to contribute significantly to the local and national economies of Saudi Arabia. The refinery has created thousands of jobs during its construction and operation phases and is expected to generate significant revenues for the country through exports of petroleum products. The refinery is also expected to help meet the growing demand for energy in the region and reduce Saudi Arabia's reliance on imported petroleum products.
