Flange-mounted transmitters are mounted directly on the tank, inline transmitters are mounted in the pipeline, and remote seal transmitters use a diaphragm or capillary to separate the transmitter from the process fluid.


To measure the level in a closed tank using a DP level transmitter, you need to follow certain steps:


Step 1: Determine the reference point

The reference point is the point at which the liquid level is zero or the tank is empty. This can be the bottom of the tank or a specific point on the tank, depending on the type of transmitter used.


Step 2: Mount the transmitter

Mount the DP level transmitter at the bottom of the tank or at the reference point. If you are using a remote seal transmitter, mount the seal at the bottom of the tank and connect it to the transmitter using a capillary.


Step 3: Connect the tubing

Connect the tubing from the bottom and top of the tank to the pressure sensors of the transmitter. Ensure that the tubing is free from any leaks or obstructions.


Step 4: Configure the transmitter

Configure the transmitter by setting the reference point and the range of the transmitter. The range is the maximum and minimum levels that the transmitter can measure.


Step 5: Calibrate the transmitter

Calibrate the transmitter by applying known levels of liquid to the tank and comparing the output of the transmitter to the actual level. Adjust the transmitter if necessary.


Step 6: Monitor the level

Once the transmitter is installed and calibrated, you can monitor the level of liquid in the tank using the output signal from the transmitter. This signal can be displayed on a local indicator or transmitted to a control system for further processing.


DP level transmitters are widely used in various industries, including chemical, oil and gas, and water treatment. They are preferred for their accuracy, reliability, and ease of installation. However, they do have some limitations, such as the need for accurate calibration, sensitivity to temperature changes, and susceptibility to errors due to vapor pressure changes.
